QA lead, eight years in. Most of my work sits somewhere between web apps, APIs, distributed systems, and the people trying to ship them.

Half the job is people. Testers who've spent years as a release gate get very good at finding defects and very bad at saying what should have been built instead. The other half is figuring out why things broke, and how to stop the same class of problem happening again.

Off the clock: long walks, longer coffee, and a slowly growing pile of books about idealism.
